Greek-born pianist George-Emmanuel Lazaridis
graduated from the Thessaloniki College of Music in 1994 where he
studied with Donna Evnouhidou, winning both First Prize and the Gold
Medal for exceptional talent. His studies continued in London, first
at the Royal College of Music under Yonty Solomon, where he gained
a BMus with first class Honours and the prize for the highest distinction,
as well as winning the coveted Chappell Medal, and subsequently at
Trinity College of Music, where he gained a top distinction for his
Master's degree. During this time, additional studies were undertaken
with Alfred Brendel, Ruth Nye and Paul Badura Skoda.
George-Emmanuel Lazaridis has regularly performed throughout Europe
and the United States, taking in performances in the Salle Cortot
in Paris, the Athens Concert Hall, the Mozart Hall in Vienna, the
Isanat Concert Hall in Istanbul, the Acropolis, and London's Royal
Albert Hall, where he recently made his début with the London
Festival Orchestra. Collaborations have included appearances with
Michael Tilson Thomas, the violinist Leonidas Kavakos, the Warsaw
Symphony Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, the Strasbourg Philharmonic,
the Vienna United Philharmonic, the London Festival Orchestra, the
Debrece Symphony Orchestra, the BT Scottish Ensemble, and most recently
with the Medici Quartet as part of the Athens Concert Hall’s
“Great Interpreters” Series, and with the English Symphony
Orchestra. He has performed all the Bach Keyboard Concertos as well
as a cycle of Mozart concertos with the Camarata Orchestra of the
Athens Concert Hall and has also performed on Classic FM, BBC Radio
3, on TBC in the USA and on ERT in Greece. Future engagements include
further performances with the Medici Quartet at the Mananan International
Festival and the Nafplion International Festival in Greece, as well
as concerto engagements with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the
Hamburg Philharmonic, the English Symphony Orchestra and with the
"Orchestra of Colours" at the Acropolis, where he will perform
Scriabin's original version of Prometheus.
George-Emmanuel Lazaridis is also an avid composer and in 1997 was
commissioned by the Cultural Capital of Europe Organization to write
a work entitled "Deisis" for Choir and Orchestra; he has
recently been commissioned to write a work for piano, voice and choir
to be performed in June 2003 at London's Wigmore Hall. He is also
working on a new opera, entitled Century.
His latest CD, of major works by Schumann, was released on the SOMM
label and received outstanding reviews – indeed the BBC Music
Magazine selected this recording within its top ten recommendations
and found it to be "special enough to be beyond comparison".
